  1. Great site brought back loads of classic memories. As a 14 year old (yes 14) I used to hang out at Flicks in Dartford 3 nights a week. I spent the rest of the week tuned into JFM and Horizon radio in order to listen to music that just quite simply made me want to shout from the roof tops with joy. I love this site especially listening to all the old tunes MAZE Joy and Pain is a particular favourite. Keep up the very good work xxxx

  2. Memories of an Essex soul boy.........Gold mine,Crocs,Zero6 Caister, A12,Water pistols,Robbie Vincent, roller skates, wedge haircuts, boob tubes, best disco in town Lyceum, 12" american imports,Japenese jazz,Ford Capris,Radio London,Capital Radio, soul boy belts, sailors shoes,Chris Hill,Jeff Young,Greg Edwards,Dave Brown,Tony "shades" Valance,Ceiling dripping at Caister, Chalets freezing cold,Soul patrols,Silk shirts,Flicks Dartford balcony jumping,Orsett hall Sunday nights,Sam Lords Pub,Burgers at five bells or Orsett Cock,Rowing on the floor at the Zero, Griffin cloths shop in Romford,Marks and spencer wool crew neck sweaters,Prohibition Pub Pitsea, seems like yesterday and I am 50 this year. Happy days.

  3. nice site reliving the good old days what about a mention for americas club southall a great club from 78 onwards with the likes of sean french chris brown fergie robbie vincent greg edwards oh and of course me

  4. what a great site....such good memories of the good old soul jazz funk days! I miss those times!

  5. hello smooth-groovers and funkateers

first of all, great site.being only a baby compared to (i`m sure) some of you lot,i`m 41,i missed the jazz-funk soul explosion of the 70s and early 80s but my god...what did i miss!!! i`ve always loved a bit of soul and a bit of brass but, being as i`m a mobile dj,i`ve started to listen more to all things with a groove that make you move, and i can`t believe i`ve missed out on a whole musical way of life all these years.the songs and music i keep finding, crossing the whole genre of jazz funk soul fusion ect is mindblowing.it`s an absolute joy to find sites like these that keep the dream alive for you `oldens` but also encourage and educate `youngens` like me on the joys of all things groovey n funky.also i`m trying to find a local venue in my home town ,margate,to stage a 70s & 80s `bring back the groove` night at some point in the summer,so keep your eyes peeled for it on here (sadly not at the atlantis!!).great site and keep giving it all that funk with a smooth groove,y`all.....

  11. Hi Tony and Tom

Thanks for your comments and info.I have managed to get Delirium on aCD mix, compilation, and also Groove On and Oneness of Juju (absolute quality)

Life is pretty quiet at the moment (downside of moving and living in Norwich) however I didn't realise until very recently that one of me work colleagues is a massive jazz funk freak and he is only early 30s and he guest DJs now and again. He downloaded me a copy of one of his sessions, only 60 mins but he's definitely got a good mix and taste.seems that some youth have got a music brain.

If there is any functions going on in the future, let me know by replying to this email on the jazzfunksoul page or you can email me personally at

    richard.thomas884@btinternet.com

Cheers guys and keep the faith.Funk forever

  12. Nicely put Richie T. Yes, I NEARLy sold all my vinyl but did not in the end. I just kept getting silly offers for it and in the end I thought @What the heck am I doing ?@ No amount of offers will ever be enough !!! :-) So I kept my 1,745 12" Singles and loads more 45's.

Now, I've set up Funk-U-Radio instead and play it for all Soul & Funksters :-) And have a great time doing it and taking reuests etc etc :-)

If you ever fancy a trip down memory lane and hearing some of those chooons from back in the day do tune in and come say 'Hi' in our chatroom :-)

    All the best,

    Keep in Funked.

    DJ Tony Wrightley.

  14. Hi, I just want to say that what a breath of fresh air it is to find your site. Im 53 this year and during the 70/80s I was a DJ in Essex (Juicy Duck) in Bishops Stortford, where all that I played was Soul,Jazz,Funk,Blues and Motown.Seeing this website has brought back so many memories. I had approx.5000 records mainly 12" singles including white labels and imports. Why don't they make music like this any more?Ripple ,El Coco Roy Ayers Maze Wilton Felder Jean Carne, the list is endless.Went to Caister, and Knebworth but couldn't get to many functions as I was aways working. Remember seeing Chris Hill and Jeff Young and Pete Tong a few times, also remember listening to Greg Edwards on a Sat evening to hear the latest, and at the time unavailable except on import, sounds .Unfortunately I ended up selling all my vinyl. HOW I REGRET IT NOW but Ive managed to get quite a bit on CD now (Not the same as that lovely black vinyl though) Still unable to get 12" version of Ripple The Beat goes On and ather tracks like Francine Mcgee Delirium and 100s of others.

Time moves on but as a few of my friends say to me Im stuck in The 80s. Yep and Im glad I am with so much crap being played now on the radio and in clubs and bars. I always said that Rap should have a C in front of it and as for R&B,utter rubbish. Anyway I look forward to hearing from other soul people/tribes out ther.

Bye for now and keep up the good work
