My Top 10's

The music of the Jazz Funk and Soul scene is really a combination of four different genre's these being Jazz Fusion (which also included Latin Jazz and Jazz Samba), Jazz Funk, Funk and Soul, although it can be difficult at times to differenciate between the genre's as many artists cross over between each and some tracks can actuallly contain an element of more than one style. However I would suggest that to differentiate, listeners need to pinpoint what is dominant on the track and at what tempo it is played at. Fusion is usually dominated by jazz type instruments and sounds. Jazz funk is dominated by a brass section whilst also containing bass type instruments or sounds. Funk is dominated by Bass type instruments and is usually played at a mid tempo pace and soul is dominated by vocals. I probably have'nt explained this very clearly but I will leave the theorising to the experts. Anyway by catagorising, it has allowed me to cram more of my favourite tracks onto this section! On this page you will find my own (playable) personal top ten from each genre aswell as my top 10 smooth grooves and what I feel are the ten tracks that had the biggest impact or influence on the scene. Visitors are invited to post their own top 10's using the box provided, which I will endeavour to post onto the site.
